RecurDyn contains hyperelastic material models which can be used for Multi Flexible Body Dynamics.

They vary greatly in computational speed and accuracy. In general,The more hyperelastic material model is accurate, the more time is required to simulate the model. And the higher accuracy generally means that the material model is accurate to a larger strain.

Generally, more accurate material models also requires the user to provide more material parameters.

Following table shows the difference between 4 hyperelastic material models offered by RecurDyn.

  • Neo-Hooke
  • Mooney-Rivlin
  • Arrruda-Boyce
  • Ogden

Hyperelastic material in RecurDyn - Multibody Dynamics software

  • Neo-Hooke: Fastest, Strains up to 100%, Most accurate for Uniaxial strain
  • Mooney-Rivlin: Slower than Neo-Hooke, Strains up to 200%, often the most popular
  • Arrruda-Boyce; Slower than Mooney-Rivlin, Strains up to 300%, Special purpose hyperelastic material for certain rubbery materials such as silicon and neoprene
  • Ogden: Slowest, Strains up to 700%, Very general purpose hyperelastic material model
