RecurDyn Simulation Contest 2019 - Multi Body Dynamics Software

Beginning in 2018, FunctionBay held the RecurDyn Simulation Contest from June to August in 2019.

The aims of the 2019 RecurDyn Simulation Contest hosted by FunctionBay are to promote awareness of the usefulness of simulation using CAE software and to cultivate young and talented mechanical engineers with excellent ideas.

Teams of at least 2 up to 4 students from various universities across the country participated in this contest. FunctionBay received entry forms at the end of June and final reports at the end of August from the teams who passed the first document screening in July 2019.

The final team selection was determined based on the comprehensive review of creativity of subject, accuracy of model, application of multidisciplinary integration, and comparison of results with experiments or theoretical formulas. The winners of the Gold, Silver, and Bronze (2 teams) were decided on August 29th at FunctionBay Headquarter located in Pangyo.

  • Gold: Zero-G  (Chonbuk National University)
  • Silver: Khu_Kongbot (Kyung Hee University)
  • Bronze: MunBbangGu (Hanyang University)
  • Bronze: Balancing Bike (Seoul National University of Science and Technology)

Like in 2018, many teams dealt with industrial and service robots. TOther topics covered include strollers, posture chairs, satellites, and agricultural machinery.

As the final presentations of 2018 winners were released, the overall level of reports submitted has increased and the understanding of  RecurDyn software has been improved.

As a result, the judges paid more attention to selecting the final teams, and 4 teams advanced to the final and won received the awards. It was a pity that there were some excellent reports that didn't make it to the finals.

Model files and reports from students who participated in the contest, and Q&A during the final judging will help FunctionBay develop a better software and create a variety of resources and materials related to RecurDyn.

FunctionBay will continue to strive to be the first provide the product that Korean engineers can easily and intuitively try to do what they want.

Through this competition, it was very good to confirm that understanding of RecurDyn by the students attending the universities receiving the RecurDyn donation program has been improved, and the educational videos provided on the FunctionBay Technology site, and the self-study materials such as Starter Kit and e-Learning also helped students become familiar with RecurDyn.

FunctionBay will continue to create an environment where anyone can learn how to use RecurDyn easily through a variety of video lectures, technical tips and forum boards.

* Here are some of the examiners' comments on the final reports that didn’t make it to the final.

Please refer to these comments if you consider to participate in the next simulation contest.

• The objectives of the design and the contents of the analysis are in good agreement. The suitability of model file and the reliability of the data used are appreciated.

• It is important to describe what you wanted to see in the simulation and what you were able to achieve with the simulation.

• It may be worth thinking more deeply about the difference between experiment and simulation.

• It is necessary to describe the meaning of the results obtained through the simulation so that others can understand them better.

• The effects of applying a flexible body using MFBD technology could have been considered.

• Compared to the elaborate geometry design, the simulation was rather simple.

* Here are a few simple tips that students better learn in advance.
