If you create a geometry or import one from a CAD file, MBD for ANSYS automatically recognizes the geometry and calculates the center of gravity and other properties of the body based on the density of the specified material (e.g. steel), the volume, and other information that you input.
Therefore, it is generally unnecessary to change the location or position of the center of gravity or the mass of the body.
However, in some cases, the automatically computed geometry may differ from the actual geometry of the model. For example, when unnecessary geometries are removed to improve contact performance or graphic speed or when the CAD geometry itself differs from the actual product design, the automatically computed data, such as the mass or the location/position of the center of gravity, may differ from the data to use in the analysis.
To manually replace the automatically computed values:
- On the MBD Entities Toolbar, click the Define Body button, click Scope for the Body, and then click Geometry to change the center of gravity.
- In the Details View dialog box, click Defined By to select User Input.
- Under Center of Gravity, click to change the Origin, X Axis, and Z axis coordinates.
