Maximum Penetration in the contact parameter is rarely changed by user.

So, only the basic concept will be depicted here..


'Penetration' is very important when the contact force is calculated. (Please refer to the below article)

And If the real penetration is bigger than Maximum Penetration, then the contact force is not calculated. (The contact force is treated as 0.)

You may wonder why the contact force is not calculated even if the penetration is big. 


To explain the reason, let's consider the below example model.

The contact force will applied to upward to the upper small box.

But let's focus on the lateral direction. what happens to the direction (where ? is marked.)

From the view point of the right side of the bigger box, definitely there is a big penetration between the big box and small box.

But the contact force is 0.

The secret is in the parameter, Maximum Penetration.

Since the penetration of the small box relative to the big box is bigger than the maximum penetration, the contact force is not calculated.

This is the purpose of this Maximum Penetration.
