When creating a new model in RecurDyn, you specify the unit. In previous versions, the unit of the model could not be changed once it was determined. However, starting from RecurDyn 2023, it is possible to change the unit of the model even after the model has been created. With the newly added Change Model Units function, you can freely change the units for Force, Mass, Length, and Time of a RecurDyn model. You can also create your own custom units.

The units of the currently opened model are displayed in the Change Units dialog box. When there are any units to be changed, select them and click the OK button to change the units accordingly.

At this time, depending on whether the 'Preserve Parametric Connections When Changing Units' option is applied, you can decide whether or not to apply the conversion to suit the unit that automatically changes the existing parameter value.

Preserve Parametric Connections When Changing Units: Off

When Parametric Value or Parametric Point is used for parameters that have a unit system, such as Stiffness Coefficient and Damping Coefficient, the value is automatically converted and applied according to the changed unit. In this case, the application of PV and PP is released and the converted value is input as a number to the parameter (In the case of a Parametric Point, it is converted to the length unit system).

Preserve Parametric Connections When Changing Units: On

When Parametric Value or Parametric Point is used for parameters that have a unit system, such as Stiffness Coefficient and Damping Coefficient, the existing PV and PP used for the parameter are maintained without any value conversion even after the unit is changed. Therefore, for parameters using PV and PP, you may need to modify the values of PV or PP to match the changed unit.

The Change Units function allows for changing model unit systems at any time and makes it very convenient to confirm the result data in different unit systems.

In particular, when the unit system used in each country is different, the Change Units feature can be very useful. When technical support is needed from engineers in other countries, it may be necessary to change the unit system of the model mainly used in the specific country.

However, the user must decide whether to automatically convert the values of all parameters to the appropriate unit instead of disconnecting PV and PP or to manually change the values of PV and PP to match the new unit while maintaining their connection.
