The Relation Map is a feature of RecurDyn that visually displays the connection between entities. It was first introduced in RecurDyn V8R4, and since then, upgrades have been made to the Relation Map in V8R5, V9R3, V9R4, and RecurDyn 2023, which was released in November 2022. This indicates that many RecurDyn users are using this feature for modeling.

Here are the useful features of the Relation Map function.

The Relation Map is a feature that visually displays the connection between various entities in RecurDyn. For example, when selecting a Body, you can visually see the Joints, Forces, and other entities that are connected to that Body. Similarly, when selecting a Joint, you can see the bodies that are connected to that joint in a diagram.

The Relation Map function allows the user to visually identify the connections between Bodies, Joints, Forces, and other entities in a complex model. Additionally, it is useful for verifying whether Joints, Forces, and other entities are well-maintained when swapping or meshing rigid bodies.

In addition, the Relation Map can be easily executed with the shortcut key 'Q'. It not only shows simple visual connections but also allows for quick finding of desired entity types using the Filter feature. Since the Properties window can be opened directly from the Relation Map, it enables quick modification. The Properties window can be opened using the same shortcut key 'P' as before, the Property icon at the top of the Relation Map window, or the mouse right-click menu.

  • Shortcut Key: Q
  • Go Back / Go Forward: If you select an Entity (such as Body, Joint, Contact, etc.) and switch to the Relation Map, it is possible to move back and forth between previous and subsequent steps. You can move one step at a time using the button or select a desired step from the drop-down menu to move to.
  • Show Property Page: Opens the Properties of the selected Entity. (shortcut key 'P' or right-click menu)
  • Filter On/Off: When the Filter is On, only Entities of the selected type are shown. When the Filter is Off, the filter tree is not available. When using the Filter, you can check the type of each entity in the Entity List displayed below.
  • Refresh: Perform ‘Refresh’ to update deleted or created entities.

The visual diagram of the Relation Map supports both radial and left-to-right display modes. You can click the 'Circular' button at the top to change the diagram display mode. In addition, it highlights the line connected to the selected Entity and the Entity selected in the Filter window, and supports icons for each Entity, making it easier to understand the relationships between Entities.

  • Highlight: It highlights the line connected to the selected Entity and displays the Entity selected in the Filter window.
  • Icon support for each Entity: Rigid bodies, flexible bodies, Joints, Forces, Contacts, PPs, PVs, Expressions, and Groups are displayed with different icons.
  • Entity Sorting: Provides three sorting methods: Default, Name, and Type
  • Inactive Entity identification: You can choose whether to display inactive entities in the Filter.

Especially, it is possible to easily identify entities related to a specific subentity (PP, PV, Expression), enabling more efficient parameter modification of complex models.

if you have not used the Relation Map function yet, it is recommended to try it since many RecurDyn users are using it for years.
