RecurDyn/Mesher provides 'Quality Check' to confirm if the mesh is good enough.
In Mesher mode, [Mesher]-[Qual. Check]
If you click 'Preview' button in the quality check dialog, the elements which violates the selected conditions are highlighted.
In general, Aspect Ratio is the most popular condition, and there are several options available as below.
- Aspect Ratio: Ratio of the longest edge and the shortest edge of the element
- A value closer to 1 is ideal. (acceptable < 3~5)
- It is not good if there are 'many' elements which has the bigger aspect ratio than 10.
- Angle: the size of the interior angle of an element.
- the ideal value varies depending on the element type
- Skewness: asymmety of the shape of an element (acceptable < 45~60 degrees)
- A value closer to 0 is ideal.
- Warping: (only for Shell4 element)
- A value closer to 0 is ideal. (Acceptable < 10~18 degrees)
- Tapering: (only for Shell4 element)
- A value closer to 0 is ideal. (Acceptable < 0.5)
- Preview: highlights the elements which violate the selected conditions.
